S3, Author at Stroke Support Station

Our 10th Anniversary year was a time of celebration, reflection and coming together. This yearbook captures the memorable moments, milestones and events that marked this special chapter in S3’s journey.

As we look back on the celebrations, we also reflect on the learnings, partnerships, collaborations and determination that have shaped our work and strengthened our community.

While our 10th Anniversary celebrations have come to a close, the memories and collaborations will continue to inspire us as we look ahead to the future.

At Stroke Support Station (S3), we know that aphasia is more than a clinical diagnosis. It is a communication challenge that can affect speech, reading and writing, even when thoughts remain clear. As highlighted in The Straits Times article “Words don’t come easy” (Jan 28, 2026), clients like Madam Suphattra Taengyotha, or Madam Noi, and Mr Henry Gui rely on therapy, tools and support to express themselves. S3 Speech Therapist, Iris Lee, guides them through speech practice, predictive text and augmentative communication devices, helping rebuild confidence in everyday interactions.

S3 also works with families and caregivers to create patient, understanding environments where all forms of expression are encouraged. With the right tools, guidance and support, people with aphasia can overcome isolation, participate fully in daily life and continue to connect and thrive.

On 29th August 2024, S3’s inaugural Swing for S3: Charity Golf Fundraiser was held at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course!

Over 130 players began the day with a hearty lunch and a special goodie bag consisting of sponsored items, including sunscreens, a $20 Adidas voucher, a sleeve of golf balls, and even a 1-year digital subscription for Golf Asia Magazine.

Together with special guest Mr Lam Chih Bing, former Singapore pro-golfer, the players teed-off towards the cause of stroke prevention, recovery, support, and reintegration. They also challenged themselves in the various novelty games prepared across the course, where exciting prizes awaited winners. Players also enjoyed the game with stunning views and an assortment of refreshments on the Serapong to beat the heat, including ice cream and satay.

After an eventful tournament, we welcomed our Guest of Honour, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, to unwind with us in a special dinner alongside Chairman of S3, Ms Chang Hwee Nee.

Mr Gan had inaugurated S3’s first Wellness Centre at Enabling Village in 2016. A highlight of the night included the unveiling of our S3@Enabling Village’s new centre signage that officially recognises us as a Centre for Stroke Recovery, reflecting our expanded suite of services dedicated to supporting the stroke community.

As a token of appreciation, stroke survivor and S3 employee Mr Patrick Chiam presented Mr Gan with a handcrafted wallet that symbolised S3’s gratitude for DPM’s support and commitment.

Alongside several performances by a special 3-piece band, we also welcomed the winners from the earlier tournament’s novelty games to congratulate them for an excellent game. We also held a special lucky draw that saw five lucky winners walk away with exciting prizes, including vouchers worth over $200 and even a queen-sized mattress, before the night ended with a rousing round of karaoke.

S3 would like to thank all participants for joining us in our first ever Charity Golf Fundraiser to support the stroke community! Our heartfelt thanks as well to Tote Board for their support, and Golf Asia for being our official media partner.

Finally, this fundraiser would not have been possible without the following sponsors:

After 5 long years, S3’s biennial Charity Gala Dinner returned on 5 May 2023 with the theme of ‘Building Health & Hope Together’! With the help of donors, partners and friends, S3 raised over $3 MILLION in funds which goes towards the subsidising of post-stroke rehabilitation, wellness programmes, support services, and outreach and prevention efforts.

We welcomed Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health, as our Guest-of-Honour for the night!

Special Guests and VVIPs include:

  • Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security
  • Mr Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport
  • Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State for Social & Family Development and Home Affairs
  • Mr Melvin Yong, Member of Parliament, Radin Mas SMC
  • Mr Seah Kian Ping, Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament, Marine Parade GRC

Special Performances

The Charity Gala Dinner 2023 featured an array of captivating performances throughout the evening, all meticulously curated and delivered by talented performers and artists.

Tribute to Mrs Teo Poh Yim

S3 honoured the memory of Mrs Teo Poh Yim, who founded our organisation in 2015, and who later passed away peacefully in 2021. Her visionary leadership established a vital haven where the stroke community could access affordable recovery services and comprehensive support in the community.

8-year-old violinist prodigy, Travis Wong, performed Mrs Teo’s favourite classical pieces: ‘Introduction’ and ‘Tarantella’.

The ‘Art of Therapy’, a commissioned masterpiece in memory of Mrs Teo, painted by Mr Joseph Tay, a stroke survivor and S3 member. The painting depicts the graceful dance of two dancers atop a bonsai, with a walking aid leaning against the side. Mr Tay used such symbolism to portray the healing process of stroke survivors.

The ‘Art of Therapy’ was presented by Mr Teo Chee Hean to the Stephen Riady Foundation as the Founder’s Award for their generous support towards S3 over the years.

Thank you to our sponsors!

Thank you for all your love and support.

With your help, we can continue making stroke care accessible for the community and improve our services to ensure holistic stroke recovery for all.
